Key Learning Outcomes

  • Standing too close to moving forklifts or raised loads.
  • Using mobile phones or headphones in shared forklift zones.
  • Failing to check blind spots or mirrors at intersections.
  • Entering forklift-only areas without appropriate PPE.
  • Walking through active work zones instead of designated pedestrian paths.

  • Maintain a minimum distance of 3 to 5 metres from a moving forklift.
  • Increase distance to at least twice the load height when a forklift is carrying a raised load.

  • Use high-visibility PPE to remain clearly visible to operators.
  • Establish eye contact with forklift operators before approaching.
  • Avoid assumptions about right of way at blind corners or crossings.

  • Use barriers and signage to separate foot traffic from active machinery.
  • Follow all site-specific safety rules and posted instructions.

  • Never ride on forklifts or stand beneath elevated forks.
  • Operate or modify forklifts only with approved training and authorised equipment.
Overview Prepare your team to remain vigilant, anticipate risks, and operate safely around one of the highest-risk machines in a warehouse environment by placing them inside an active warehouse where forklifts operate continuously and safety decisions have immediate consequences. Designed for everyone who shares the workspace rather than operators alone, the training uses realistic, high-risk scenarios that cannot be safely recreated on site to build situational awareness and decision-making under pressure, reflecting the fact that a significant share of forklift incidents involve pedestrians, not just drivers.
About The Course

During the simulation, participants are required to:

  • Identify hazards created by pedestrian and forklift interaction.
  • Apply the Hierarchy of Controls and the Risk Assessment Matrix to reduce exposure.
  • Respond to evolving risks that reflect real operational incidents.
  • Complete hazard inspections under exam conditions to confirm understanding.

This practical approach shifts warehouse safety from rule adherence to consistent behaviour, reinforcing awareness through action.

Features

  • Navigate a dynamic warehouse environment with continuously emerging hazards.
  • Practice hazard identification and risk mitigation using established safety frameworks.
  • Experience scenarios too dangerous to reproduce in real operations.
  • Complete two formal inspections under exam conditions.
  • Access integrated analytics and trainee performance data.
  • Modelled from Unit of Competency: BSBWHS211
