Key Learning Outcomes
- Identify, review, and sign mandatory documents, including the Permit to Work, Confined Space Entry Permit, and Job Safety Analysis.
- Understand the legal and procedural purpose of each document before confined space entry.
- Assess the condition of critical equipment such as harnesses, gas detectors, man-down devices, first aid kits, PPE, and communication tools.
- Perform functional tests, including gas detector bump testing and inactivity trigger checks on man-down devices.
- Isolate energy sources, including gas tanks and electrical switchboards.
- Secure equipment using physical locks to prevent unintended activation during entry.
- Perform initial crack testing at the access hatch.
- Measure atmospheric conditions at multiple vertical levels before and during entry.
- Recognize safe thresholds, including 20.9 percent oxygen, zero parts per million hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide, and zero percent lower explosive limit.
- Maintain continuous or periodic gas monitoring during cleaning operations.
- Use appropriate tools and equipment to complete maintenance tasks safely.
- Check both upper and lower areas for potential gas accumulation.
- Remove Lockout-Tagout devices after work completion.
- Complete and sign final documentation to confirm safe job closure.
- Review individual performance using the integrated results system.
Overview
Train teams to identify confined space hazards and apply required safety procedures through an immersive experience that builds practical confidence for working in high-risk, low-visibility environments such as tanks, silos, and sewers, supporting safe task execution, pre-site induction, and regulatory compliance without exposing workers to real-world risk.
About The Course
Confined spaces present immediate and severe risks, where a single error can result in multiple casualties within moments.
Participants are placed inside a simulated compressor tank environment and required to:
- Identify confined space hazards, including limited ventilation, hazardous gases, and physical obstructions.
- Carry out cleaning tasks while managing environmental and operational stressors.
- Select and use appropriate personal protective equipment to control airborne and physical risks.
- Apply Lock-Out Tag-Out procedures to isolate and secure equipment prior to entry.
This hands-on training reinforces safe decision-making, hazard recognition, and emergency readiness through repeated practice rather than theoretical instruction.
