Bias as a Barrier - Video 4
Who Benefits From This Training

Strengthens cultural awareness and understanding of DEI, equipping students with practical tools to recognise and address personal biases and assumptions.

Complements broader DEI initiatives by using immersive simulations that increase awareness and support behaviour change in real-world contexts.

Builds foundational understanding of DEI and provides learners with strategies to identify and challenge their own internal biases.
Overview

Examine how personal bias influences both your own thinking and the perceptions of others. Biases are a natural and necessary part of how the brain processes information. Challenges arise only when those biases begin to negatively affect people, decisions, or interactions.

About The Course

Bias as a Barrier consists of five interactive topics, supported by additional activities including onboarding, self-reflection, and a final survey. The experience follows a linear structure, with virtual coaches Nola and Abeeku guiding learners step by step through each activity. Full participation is recommended to achieve the maximum learning benefit.

The module is designed to take approximately 35 minutes to complete. Actual completion time may vary if learners choose to revisit topics to explore alternative options, which is encouraged, or refine their open-ended responses. For planning purposes, the seat-time estimates outlined in the activity breakdown have been rounded up to the nearest minute.

Learning objectives:

  • Recognise how unconscious bias influences personal thinking and decision-making.
  • Reflect on individual experiences related to discrimination.
  • Analyse the presence and impact of bias within popular media.
